What’s UP: with Gamescom 2022

The 13th annual Gamescom event from Cologne, Germany is here! Geoff Keighley has taken human form once again to bring us all the latest gaming trailers, announcements, and reveals. Gamescom, the largest convention of its kind spans the next 5 days and features 1000+ exhibitors from 53 countries. Today were treated with trailers on 30-plus games that aired to a live sold-out theater, the first in two years since covid.

But today is about the trailers so without further delay, here is your Gamescom 2022 announcements:

Everywhere - A Far-reaching game concept idea with a bold vision, we have no idea what that vision is, but it’s bold... and far-reaching. We think we saw Rocket League and Fortnite in there for a second. Is it a 2nd Second Life? Sony Nightmares? There are different genres, perspectives, games, and even art styles. Too long to be a teaser too cryptic to be a trailer. We wish them the best of luck with whatever this is.

Dune Awakening - Legendary Games - We got a cinematic trailer for a Dune open-world Survival MMO, anybody want to do a line a spice with us? Dune Awakening looks like something I would love but who has the time for yet another open-world MMO? Also, a survival game on Arrakis sounds like the souls-bourne version of survival games.

The Dual Sense Edge Sony Pro Controller - Edge yourself with Sony’s new vibrating dual sensual controller.

Callisto Protocol - Striking Distance Studios - December 2022 - A new game play trailer for Dead Space’s spiritual successor featured some stealth elements, a lot of environmental kills, and the evolution mechanic. The morphuckers (my name not theirs) if not killed quickly will start absorbing things around it and evolve from the brink of death into something even stronger. The trailer ends with a scripted scene that shows the player navigating a series of tunnels and pipes filling up with water ending in a very gruesome player death. This is the kind of game that will show up as B-reel in one of those “What’s wrong with America’s youth?” exposes on the evening news and we couldn’t be happier.

Lords of the Fallen - Hexworks Studio - A Cinematic trailer featuring a boy and his Bluetooth-enabled lantern. THEE sequel to Lords of the Fallen, the soulslike game from back in 2014.

Moving Out 2 - 2023 - The game where you don’t just play couch coop, you co-op move a couch, and now double that experience! Up to 4 player co-op local and online will be available.

Hogwarts Legacy - Feb 10th, 2023 - Avada Kedavra! Get an A in your Offense with the Dark Arts class and embrace your Renegade side. Could you IMAGINE how well this game would have done if it came out when it was a little more relevant and a little less problematic? The Trailer Ends with a Pre-Order for Delux edition digital goodies… what year is it 2012?

New Tales from the Borderlands - An all new storyline with all new characters based off Tell Tales original Tales from the Borderlands. Featuring 3 new main protagonists, all being very unlikely heroes. Fran might be our new best friend though. Drops Oct 21, 2022.

Dying Light 2 Bloody Ties - Parkour! HARDCORE PARKOUR! A new DLC is coming to the well-received but buggy at launch Zombie playground. Now might be the perfect time to drop kick back in.

Tortuga A pirates Tales - I like turtles! Following closely behind Games IN SPACE are games about Pirates. This one involves turtles and strategy.

Marauders - Escape from Tarkov in space? Phasmophobia in space (that’s actually a good idea)? Raid, Loot, and Escape in Space is the tagline in this first-person shooter!

Sonic Frontiers - Sega - Nov 8th 2022 - Sega needs to start calling this marketing style “Bait and Sonic” Sonic Frontiers showed up with a great new trailer, a huge leap in the right direction from their baren grass worlds of previous showings. The new clip shows multiple locations all different in scope along with different combat mechanics that look like they will fit perfectly with the Blue Blur. Even had some forced 2D perspective for us old heads.

Under the Waves - Quantic Dreams - 2023 - The Heavy Rain must have never stopped, Developers of Detroit: Become Human and Beyond: Two Souls bring us Under: The Waves. A narrative-driven underwater adventure game shows us swimming with sea turtles and wandering through abandoned sea labs. What secrets lie beneath the deep? Find out next year.

Goat Simulator 3 - Nov 17th 2022 - The game that is so GOAT they skipped 2 and went right to 3. There’s so much happening in this trailer, goats jousting on a tight rope, goats with laser eyes, goats doing downward dog, and LAND SHARKS! Who knows what’s in store for us, but never trust a goat, they have rectangular pupils!

Monkey Island - Return to Monkey Island - Sept 19th 2022 - Guybrush Threepwood will be sailing into our lives in less than a month! Pre-order now and get some Horse Armor as a preorder bonus…

Moonbreaker - Unreal Worlds - From the studio that brought you Subnautica and author Brandon Sanderson comes a turn based space tactical RPG featuring miniatures you can paint just like D&D figures. A mix of hearthstone and xcom with the flare of Firefly.

Friends vs Friends - A first-person Deck Builder arena shooter? We swear some of these games are just genres from a hat. BUT! With an Amazing announcement trailer like this who cares? The song slaps as well. The trailer ends with some short cuts of in-game footage, the game has style for days.

Lies of P - A new story trailer for the gothic soulslike dropped and it looks gorgeous and full of character. While clearly taking many inspirations from Bloodbourne and other souls games it looks to have enough going for it to make its own path. Can we all agree though, that the title Lies of Pinocchio is infinitely better than Lies of Pee?

Stranded Alien Dawn - A Cinematic trailer and game play footage of the ending scene of Battlestar Galactica. It has a Project zomboid but with aliens kinda feel.

Atlas Fallen - Focus Entertainment - 2023 - Dont let the Atlas touch the ground! This lengthy cinematic trailer shows off a world of ruins and monsters. Theres a few seconds of gameplay at the end which shows fast paced combat.

Homeworld 3 - Fun Fact, Homeworld 3 is the third game in the series. Pop!

Genshin impact V 3.0 - New trailer for THEE anime MMO, accept no substitutes.

Star Rail - Murder on the oriental express but its anime…and in SPACE! It’s always in god damn space!

High on Life - Oct 25. 2022 - Squanch games shows us some gameplay footage of a boss fight against a cyborg praying mantis. The guns spew all kinds of typical rick and morty esque banter while you use them. Will be available day one on Xbox Gamepass.

Hardspace Shipbreaker - Survival salvage game… you guessed it! IN SPACE! The game comes out Sept 20th. The game has been doing very well on early access and reviews well, so good thing space is endless.

The Expanse - Tell Tale Games - Space is the next and only frontier, and in this newest series from the on and off-again game developer we follow a scavenger during the looting of a spaceship graveyard.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space - Coulrophobia meets Astrophobia in this Horror survival multiplayer game from the makers of Friday the 13th.

Scars Above - Open world space horror alien invasion game that looks very similar to Arrival.

Wyrdsong - Something Wicked Games - Behind those lying eyes is not much to go on about what this game is about.

Age of Empires 4 - Seriously what year is it?!

Gotham Knights - October 21 - This was the first time we had any real excitement about this game. The villians are gonna make this game for us. Clay face makes his theatrical debut along with; enigmatic Harley Quinn, Mr Freeze and the Court of Owls. You’ve peaked out interest WB.

Where Winds Meets - Everstone Games - An open world action RPG featuring some gorgeous visuals and movement. Running on water, fighting amonst the falling cherry blossoms, this new grandeous IP looks very ambitious from a new studio.

Kojima Reveals Himself - KojimaPod! Sept 8th

Park Beyond - Bandai Namco - A new theme park simulator has broken ground and this one is putting creativity in the foreground. Crazy physics (and back) breaking roller coasters, build your own shops and concession stands, and create a thriving park to rule over like the immortal old man from Six Flags.

Black Tail - Head to your nearest red oak. This trailer features some colorful bold artwork with some intriguing character design. We get some Zeno clash meets Alice in Wonderland with the visuals and character design.

Phantom Hellcat - meow

Dorf Romantik - A Cute Beautiful town builder in the palm of your hands

The Outlast Trials - Penhurst the video game. From the trailer I’ve can’t help but think there is going to be an online component to the next in installment in the Outlast series. I guess we will have to “volunteer” for the beta this Halloween to find out.

The Finals - Is this another hero shooter? If it is. WHY?

Dead Island 2 - This time without the Goats, the loooong awaited DI2 releases on Feb 3rd, 2023. Set in LA this over-the-top zombie smasher features 6 new playable characters and a whole west coast as your playground. This new trailer definitely catches the vibe of the game more then the infamous heartbreaking trailer of the original.
